If we apply the same logic that the N64 controller is for people with 3 hands because it has 3 handles, it would be like saying pic related is for people with 4 thumbs.

Are there any DualShock to Xbox converters which allow having triggers bound to L1 & R1, and white & black on L2 and R2?
I prefer to play games like Tony Hawk, Aggressive Inline, etc. with the D-pad and digital shoulder buttons. Sure I could play the PlayStation versions, but the Xbox versions have more content, graphics, etc.

>SONY released THIS in 1997
How come they never get credit for being so ahead of the game in controller design and usability?
Is there other unknown stuff that was so ahead of the time or revolutionary you can think off?

Is there a technical reason why the PlayStation tended to have "grittier" releases than the N64 or was it tied to developer culture?

Even within comparable genres the N64 equivalent tended to be more cartoonish, eg F-Zero vs Wipeout. Was this tied to the machines' tech?

Which games made use of the right stick other than FPSs and Ape Escape?

I've been replaying Spyro on my backwards compatible PS3 and I am noticing a very slight sensitivity issue.

I believe the DualShock 3's are more sensitive than the original DualShock and I would like to somehow just hook up an original DualShock to the PS3.

Can it be done? Anyone know of any good controller converters?

We got this in 1997, almost a year before Spyro :-)

Were the first ones laggy at all, was the Frogger remake just shit, or was my fat brother's fat friend just mad because bad?

This. Works great for basically anything, and controller design peaked with the original Dual Shock anyway

The PSX analog controller.

20 years old and the only modern standard it's lacking is axis input on the lower shoulder buttons.

It's a design that went virtually unchanged for a decade and still hasn't seen major alterations today.

Put an N64 or Saturn controller in the hands of a modern 16 year old gamer today and they'll probably wonder how the fuck anyone thought they were good controllers. An PSX Dual Shock, though? They'll feel right at home.

It's not like Nintendo don't deserve credit, though. The original PS1 controller is just an SNES controller with two extra shoulder buttons and some handles, and Nintendo put out an analog controller first, unlike Sony, who only released the Dual Shock in response to the N64.

If I were to pick another controller to sit alongside the PSX dual shock, it's be the SNES controller, since that's where the modern button layout that's now standard began.

Does somebody know where I can find a tutorial on how to open and repair the original Dualshock controller? All I cand find on youtube and other sites is Dualshock 2 and the white Dualshock 1, which is different from the original. Thanks in advance.

What games actually used the right stick on the original PlayStation (besides Ape Escape)?

Purple is objectively the worst, second only to gold

>>2865085
>Nintendo has an idea
>creates the world's worst joystick known to man
>Sony after creating a totally reasonable and good controller based off of established ergonomic designs decides to kick it up a notch
>rumble AND 360 stick movement

And the best part is
The Dual Shock stick doesn't fucking break after one game of Mario Party 2

Honestly the largest bullet I've ever dodged aside from that one time I nearly got hit by a car - I'm so glad I didn't get a N64 until it was about to be completely phased out at the retail level

Okay, so my sister's wanting to get into gaming properly. I'm picking her up a PS2 for Christmas, but her main focus will be on the PS1 library available since that's what we used to play together when we were younger. Her main hurdle with getting into games is feeling comfortable with the controller- two analog sticks and more than eight buttons is a lot to get used to at once. I'm picking her up a few games to help this, only Ape Escape so far.

Which PS1/PS2 games would you recommend for getting into analog contols?
