Do you believe Half-Life was a bad influence on FPS? Yes it did have solid gameplay and good story-telling through the interactions in the game itself without much intervention even though there were bullet-sponge enemies. At the same time, it did pave the way for more story-telling in FPS and TPS that were seen as mandatory instead of log-clips or the game actually stopping you from what you were doing..

Depends on what type of PC you are talking about.

Sharp X6800 was released in 1987 and had better looking games than the SNES and Genesis. The Neo-Geo could probably beat it.

More mainstream games, maybe around 1997 or 1998 when 3d add-in cards become very popular with PC gamers and you had games like Quake II and Half-Life out that looked distinctly better (in terms of polygons and lighting) than the console games.

However IMO a lot of PC games still looked shitty up into the 2000s. Too brown and dirty looking.

I get really bad motion sickness when playing the original Half Life (if that counts as retro here)

What makes the old games graphics so much better?
I mean, I can't be the only one who thinks it's much more "readable" to have low-poly stuff like pic related, than what you have in modern games.

For instance in old games like Tomb Raider / HL, you have a clear idea of what surfaces are walkable, which are in a slope, which are too far etc. Now with modern games (well for 10 years already), I feel like the levels are a mess where you can't even tell what area are off-limits and which ones are related to gameplay.

Am I the only one here thinking this?
