An AES or an SCPH-5903.

Correction: I wouldn't go with an SCPH-5000 since unlike the other 5xxx models, this one is more akin to some of the earlier PlayStation 1 models, down to having a garbage CD drive, overheating issues and FMV skipping problems.
Thankfully, the SCPH-5000 was only released in Japan and the North American version which was the SCPH-5001 was much better in many ways.

The absolute best PlayStation 1 is still the elusive SCPH-5903 which was only released in certain parts of Asia, you will know these if they are white like the PSOne rather than grey like most of the other PlayStation 1 models, it also had the RCA AV out, parallel and link cable ports that the early models had, it also has the "audiophile" sound quality of the earlier PSOnes while having a similar DAC to the SCPH-5xxx models, which are better.
And exclusive to this version, it can play VCDs without any unlicensed third-party attachments, which is just icing on the cake
So, yeah, the SCPH-5903 is the best of both worlds; it has the "audiophile" sound quality of the SCPH-100x as well as the RCA AV, Parallel and Link Cable ports, while having the improvements from the SCPH-5xxx such as the best DAC, the texture dithering issue fix, the better CD drive and also fixing the overheating issue

The only problem is how to find it, it is very hard to find one and it's true luck if you manage to find one, and it is rarely certain if you found the right one

Thankfully, I bought one from this little shop owned by a Filipino immigrant near a restaurant where I went on a date once with my girlfriend, I bought it in great condition from him one day, he said he bought it while he was still in the Philippines.
After I bought it, I got it modded to remove the region lock and to play CD-Rs and it works really great, I also bought RGB SCART cables to use it on my BVM while routing the RCA audio to my 6.1 surround setup, it is now my main PS1.

Not my pic, btw.
