It gets better and better as you go and actually becomes meaningful rather than just ADVENTURRRRR!!! yet without going somber or shifting the tone.
Combat is a toy. Treat it as such. Combat is designed to be unlosable. But it still has some nice exploration, some nonlinearity, and even a bit of a difficulty romp before the final boss that requires you to understand how the pre-final-boss open world works before going into the final battles prepared.
Good stuff despite basically being an early story-first moviegame.

CT should have been a visual novel, or better yet, an animated series. Then it would've been a masterpiece.

Does the Dream Devourer ending on the DS retcon Chrono Cross?
Magus in that fight wipes his memory and ends up as Guile but in the True ending of CT, he doesnt. Almost makes me wonder if Radical Dreamers is now the intended followup to Trigger, since Magus remembers the old team.
