I'm on the same page that there's some enigmatic element about her (just like I asked above using the same word), but it's not really about her parents. They don't matter much and bringing them in later stuff like movies/comics/LAU (don't even want to talk about nu-reboot) was a mistake in my opinion. It seems people who worked on franchise later didn't know how to feel these gaps, even Toby who was involved in LAU.
