Thematically this has always been one of my favorite concepts of the series. After preserving the human race in the first two games it is ultimately humanity that destroys itself as badly, or even possibly worse, then the aliens. While the corrupt nature of many of the adults in the first two games is obviously very comical it also represents what will ultimately destroy us. Despite that it also doesn't have a pessimistic message, but that while we may very well destroy ourselves it's still worth trying to preserve as best as we can for those that matter us.

Excuse the autism. I haven't been as crazy into the series as I've become older but going through these threads every so often and I remember just how sincere these games feel, and why I think the series has such a strong appeal.
