Part of it is the camera shot (it never gets all the colors right), and part of it has to do with a shader I was employing that reduces the color range from 0-255 to 16-235, because supposedly that's what TVs used or some shit. It can result in nicer-looking colors at time, but sometimes it also results in making dark colors look darker, and I believe that was the case here.

This shot uses the same settings, and Barret is blacker than usual as a result.
