Let's talk about the 2nd gen of gaming. It had a lot of good consoles, Atari 2600, Vectrex, Collecovision, Intellevision, Game & Watch. .

I'm also looking for an Atari 2600.

They're all over my local CL, but people either want a $100+ for one or they just never reply to my messages.

Should I get one of these for the sake of completion for my retro game collection or is it better to pass on it?

To be clear, I appreciate the Atari 2600. But almost none of its games have aged well. I might still find 5 minutes of quick fun playing "Pitfall" or "Freeway". But replay value is really low, even for the more arcade-style games like Donkey Kong.

Seeing as the Atari 2600 makes for a better history lesson than the kind of thing you invite your bros over to play, I'm curious. For those of you who collect or still have one after all these years, how often do you still play it, if at all? And what are your favorite games?

I'm sorry I just don't get them. Maybe I was born to late, but I just don't understand the appeal. You can't tell what anything is, the sound is awful, and the gameplay is cryptic at best. The only ones that are ok, are arcade ports of like pacman or frogger, but still they aren't even good, especially when I could just play the real arcade version.

So am I missing anything here? Are there any actually good atari games?
