I let my GF borrow my Bluetooth controller for her iPhone 11... and that Lightning port isn't an issue. If you're still skeptical of Bluetooth ones, get a cheaper one to try out since it avoid all of this port issue, while working reasonably well to play anything you want, at least in my experience with it. I'm sure the Backbone, and a few others, had Lightning too... maybe you can find it used.

Indeed.

I haven't found a single controller with the proper placements, which to me would be symmetrical analog sticks on the bottom, my priority was for them to be symmetrical, and the only ones I've found were ones with the analog sticks on top, but I still prefer it over asymmetrical ones, which seem to be what most of these controllers go for sadly. I'll agree that the buttons don't feel great, but they're not bad and you get used to them, same with the analog sticks, though those are worse than the buttons.

I've done a few changes to my setup:
1. I removed the glass screen protector as I never get the smartphone out of the controller and I was using a bad protector in general, as it was poorly sized and covered some parts of the screen with its black border, including the bottom, making it more difficult to make the Android buttons show up when needed.
2. Speaking of which, I replaced the Android buttons with the swipe gestures common on Apple's smartphones, which was impossible with that screen protector covering the bottom.
3. I enabled the option to cut part of the screen at the top, most specifically the area parallel to the camera as the hole can bother me somewhat, I prefer a truly full screen.
I'm really happy with this slightly different setup, it's not too different, but different enough that I notice the difference and appreciate it, it's nice.
