They were just different and catered to different audiences. I played way more computer than consoles in the 80's and 90's. If you wanted platformers then sure consoles were the go to. But I was more into strategy, rpgs, roguelikes and sim games back then. Also there was nothing like Arctic Fox or the like on nes or master system. I played the fuck out of that and similar stuff.

OP is talking about what games looked like. Free roam was nothing new. Good graphics were nothing new. Not him but I agree, my reaction like many other people's was that it wasn't all that special. I thought it looked kinda crappy, it was one of the reasons I never got an N64.

Doom is a game that looked 3D but wasn't actually. Flight Simulator was full proper 3D.

So was Acrtic Fox, though you had to use cheats to make your tank fly like the enemies if you wanted to move up and down also.

I'm hardly ass triggered that you don't like Sim City, but I'm also not going to agree.

Never played Railroad Tycoon or LL though, too many other games.

I still feel bad for people stuck with only one or the other.

Fucking console babies. 3D didn't suddenly pop into existence when the PS1 came out. God damn what is wrong with the children on this fucking forum.

Some are still fun, but for the most part early 3D doesn't age as well as early 2D in my opinion.

Also this, I played the heck out of games like Battlezone, 3Demon and Arctic Fox in the 80's. Not to mention the incredible Star Wars in the arcade.

Arctic Fox is such a fantastic and sadly mostly forgotten game.
