not long. it wasn't fun as a kid and it sure as hell isn't fun as an adult. this is mostly because of three reasons:
1.) The course design is fucking awful with zero intuition used to build stages that don't lend itself to the mechanics of the games core central philosophy of 3-D Platforming
2.) You are forced to replay a stage once a star/objective is collected, ensuring momentum of engagement is cutoff very quickly.
3.) Mario controls like dog shit.
