You don't have to hit yourself to level up your HP stats. This opinion comes straight from ecleb reviews of the game. And its one of the easier FF games and the story is quite good especially for the time.
The first time I played through the game I didn't know about the hitting yourself meme and finished the game with very little grinding. I also didn't make much use of spells overall either and mostly kept leveling up spells just to see what the higher powered versions of the spell effect graphics looked like. When I realized that leveling up spells took forever I gave up.
There are flaws that could be fixed for sure. But the hitting yourself meme is a stupid one to fixate on.

Hey, /vr/ troopers.

I'm learning Japanese, I can already read all Hiragana and some Katakana, however I heard the original Final Fantasy game is all written in hiragana due to cart space issues.
I don't really care about playing it "seriously", I just want to play through it easy to keep reading and hoping I get the story well based on my studies, so I'm looking for an easy mode patch, or a Game Genie code or what have you. Double Experience or something, I don't know.
