>here is no way anybody on this board who is old enough to have been around back then used to call it psx when talking to other people
Listen up summer child, I was working my first job in the video game section of Sears when the PSX was released in the USA.

This is what it stood for.

>Source: I was there. You weren't.
Myself and my cluster of friends, who were all born in the late 70s also were there. In the early-mid 90s leading up to the release of this system I worked in both the video game section of sears, and in the video game section of a store called "Media-Play" (at the same time) Everyone called it the PSX.
This included gaming magazines and internet information, and we certainly followed the development of the system from its inception as a SNES expansion/sequel. I predicted a total failure of a system, and am glad I was wrong. The PSX was a perfect transition from the SNES for 2d jrpgs and created many great games.

>Was the PlayStation 1 the best system ever made?
It was the right piece of hardware and software at the very right time. For what/when it was, it certainly is one of the best systems ever made.

>>5256141
>who ever called that?
Everyone in North America who followed the development of the console.

>I have no idea why autists still fight over this.
Because when someone says some dumb shit like:

>Nobody ever called it PSX
And then you give proof
>Well, no one I know called it PSX
>Well, no one pronouced the "Ecks" sound at the end
>Everyone called it PlayStation

The problem with this line of discussion is that unless you spoken to EVERY owner and found that none of them did do what you are claiming no one did, then you are just making a generalization based on your circle of peers.

This is where autists have a problem. If it is not their way, it is wrong (which in and of itself is retarded) My PSX still works just fine, and yes, "PEE ESS ECKS" is what it is called within my circle. Everyone I know did call it that, but I also respect the fact that some people have different terminology. We call it that because that is what the magazines called before it came out. I never gave a damn what anyone else called it, but it is hilarious seeing users sperg out over it.

They shouldn't have called it PSX prior to its release. It will be the PSX and the PSone forever in my world, and I don't care who doesn't like it. I am realistic that most of these people wouldn't like many of my hobbies either.

>PSX DVR wikipedia page.
Sorry, I misunderstood you in my previous post. I know how contentious of an issue this is with the younger audience, and I confused this statement with this web page:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_(console)#cite_note-28

Which also lists the internal and advertised name of the product as PSX.

Pic related.

I think the difference between people who call it PSX and the people who sperg out over it is that the younger audience who was not alive knows PS1 or simply as "PlayStation" because they could compare it to the followup models PlayStation 2 and The 3rd one. I was living on my own when this hype was happening. I remember the advertisements and it was going to be called "PSX" . It wasn't huge, but people in the know found out about it, and the simple term stuck.

>the Gamecube is referred as GCN for some reason.
Internal company code. Much like NUS for the N64, but it never stuck.
