You mean nudging. Tilting is when you nudge too much and the ball ends.

If the ball is closer to one side than the other, you can save it by nudging. If the ball is closer to the left flipper, nudge the machine to the right and flip. Even a good slap to the side of the machine will do it. Remember, you're not moving the ball, you're moving the machine around the ball.
