Man, I remember being bitterly disappointed by this game. I got it when it first came out (I'm old) and even by the standards of the time it was a piece of shit. Especially embarrassing considering the Genesis game came out soon afterwards and did everything right that this game did wrong.

They pulled this same fuckery when they did digital releases, released Alien Crush and then never made Devil's Crush available in the US. Or Ninja Spirit. Or Legendary Axe. Or Bonk 2.

I'm sick of the CV IV hate on /vr. It has some of the best music in the series and is aesthetic as fuck, and the easier difficulty isn't a downside IMO because NES-era difficulty was semi-ridiculous in a of of cases and was more about the sometimes awkward transition from arcades to consoles than some kind of overarching design choice. It took people a while to realize games didn't have to be ass-rapingly difficult when you're not trying to extort quarters out of people.

Random battles always become tedious at some point. Honestly, I have trouble replaying a lot of JRPGs anymore because I just can't stand having to slog though so many pointless encounters. Abilities like enc-none or items like the moogle charm should be mandatory for these sorts of games.

Less memorable but still bullshit: Shinobi

>spend assloads of quarters learning enemy placement and patterns
>slowly grind way through that fucking ridiculous level with colored ninjas everywhere
>finally reach stage 5 w/ one life left
>die
>no continues
>you have to replay entire game just to get another shot at stage 5

I know shinobifags love a challenge, but letting people feed quarters into that thing for unlimited continues until the very end when it switches to sudden death with no warning is textbook bait & switch.
