A lot of the stamping and tooling used to make such large glass tubes are lost or destroyed, and the lead glass neck is basically illegal to make in most countries.

Supply and demand. People were happy to throw out their sub-480i displays with a widescreen 720p TV that is half the weight. Unless there is enough of a demand to warrant the upfront cost of making a production line from scratch, nobody will do CRTs again.
It's a shame that we never did get the true sequel, surface-conduction electron-emitter displays (SED).
