/vr/ - Retro Games

Hello guys, I was born in 1990 but I grew up with no vidya until I got a PS2 for Christmas so as a result I never played those "classics" that everyone praises such ads Metroid, Castlevania,Zelda, etc.
I want to fill that hole in my gaming bakround so I was wondering what you guys consider the essential game on the SNES/NES console.

tl;dr - I've been thinking of importing an SFC for a while now, because loose JP carts are a shit-ton cheaper than Australian pre-owned prices and it'll provide a drive for me to learn moon. I have access to a PAL SNES but purely as a matter of convenience I'd prefer to only keep one console around and the SFC seems like the better choice.

There's a lot of info on NTSC>PAL converters, but not so much the other way around though. So before I spend any money, I've got a couple questions:
Is it possible to play my old PAL games on an SFC? And if so what kind of converter will be required? Will there then be any compatibility issues, from region locking, signal disparity, etc.?
Furthermore, am I likely to encounter any problems getting the 50Hz SFC to output to a PAL TV?
