The built in memory is a non-issue since it's only 2gb (not even enough for one game) and you're going to use a microSD these days anyways. The MicroUSB charging is a huge upgrade, I agree, but the screen on the 2000 is a noticeable downgrade. I own both and prefer using the 1000 personally, though I think the 2000 has a better looking design.
