I was 11 years old when I finished this game for the first time and both the plot and the cast were already feeling extremely cheesy to me.

Eh, I actually liked that mechanic. In fact, it has to be the only one I liked.

If I could, I'd rework the magic system entirely. Making spells consumables you also have to equip to raise your stats has to be the dumbest idea Square has ever had.
The endgame was a grind fest because of it.
