Once you see the promo screenshots compared to the final product, you see how the mesh is completely fucked, plus the fact that the N64 and PS1 models has it fixed and even smoothened.
Q2 is in dire need of a new monster mesh as Q1 post Md5, which helped A LOT in the animation department and let if free of its animation.c behavior files.

Rogue has unused calls for custom maiden textures, i think it was supposed to be the widow's own maiden guard.

Also the Iron Maiden Shoulder mesh is fubar, it should be square as a shoulderplate but the mesh is fucked

even the monster's faces were more detailed compared to the final product, i even think Q2E assets has those.
i even did that for the upscaling stuff, and surprisingly they really looked good, mainly the Gunner, the asshole is now on par with the concept art and art cover for the PS1 and N64

Q2 had retarded compressed filtering issues due to hardware limitation, that was patched with source ports and a DLL patch.
Carmack if he had power, would had delayed the game until the new cards were out months later, since the promotional stuff had higher res textures for monsters, with more detail.
its a miracle that they released this game a year after Q1's release, but even so, tim willits fucked with everything with anal jokes.
At least the mission packs restored most of it.

Also, go filtered if you want it but Set GL_Linear_Mipmap_nearest, if you are using the default stuff and not the Neural or HD pack

Texture filtering in doom looks like shit because graf can't get it right in fact he seems to fuck with the openGL and vulkan drivers all time and it gets worse every single time
Texture filtering in Quake 1 varies because originally the game wasn't made for it and carmack had to compress it due to video cards back then being shit, which isn't the problem for hexen 2 or other Q1 commercial shit like x-men ravages of apocalypse or hacx
Quake 2 and onwards were made with in mind but they were heavily compressed and blurry due the hardware limits of its timewhich wasn't the problem for those with 3dfx and powervr cards, something that by the time of the 1st gen geforce cards, it was fixed thanks to the community.
There is also the fact that Quake 2 was probably made with higher resolution textures in mind like Unreal's S3 pack.
Quake 3 literally has no issues with it, but the game was compressed even with it turned off.

For those asking about Q1's Lovecraftian and ETQW,Q2 and IV's Strogg Connection in all of this for a future game, QC solved it some time ago.

The rabbit hole is deep, and the Makron was in League and Survived because he also served the Elder Gods(which explains why he was rebuilt so fast), and none of his servants knew of it, all of them were sacrifices as he was observing Bitterman, and all of cerberon was protected by another deity's runes, also the reason of why the Strogg in Q2 was "Dumb" was because all of the forces on Stroggos were made out of Scalebearer's race, and their smarts weren't agreeing with strogg tech, also Private Joker wiped out all of Stroggos gekks, which were used to make Neurocytes.
Shub's Rune and its forces is Q1's Symbol, Q2 is Another Deity, possibly Nyarlathotep, who also fits the strogg and SB's race technological narrative, Q4 is a Mix of it because of Matthew Kane, who possibly became the host of the Makron and the old god's new plan, hence why the Makron was Observing Bitterman, and possibly Joker and Stepchild, he was planning to create perfect strogg out of human marines, which led to the tactical strogg in Q4, and possibly Kane as his new backup body after his death.

Quake/Shub is alive and well too in QC, therefore if a Sequel Happens, it will tie all of this, and even add new enemies or allied races from Scalebaerer, Nyx and even rebel Strogg Possibly led by Bitterman himself against the Elder Gods.
Also the Infiltrator and ETQW strogg are pure strogg, not the Humans or Scalebearer race from both games.

Here is all of Q2's original Enemies BEFORE the Demo from the manual and magazines,
and the bastards had more polygons and better texture detail, even their faces and shading looks better.
Even the Fucking Maiden's Left Arm's mesh and vertex looks better than the final result.
