You STILL haven't played Sonic CD? What are you waiting for, Nintendo to make it?

What was the opinions on this in the old days? Did people want to FOMO, or was it perceived as a side-game?

It is still my favorite SEGA CD game. The Special Stages are super fun, both soundtracks are superb (though I'm partial to the US one), and the race against Metal Sonic is unfortgetable. Most of the complaints I've heard either have something to do with the Time Travel mechanic or Wacky Workbench, which are both valid to be fair, but it's still a great game regardless. Maybe my favorite 2D Sonic at this point.

Maybe I would if they weren't so obscenely expensive. Probably my favorite console aside from Chinese handhelds. Saturn will never be SEGA CD. Long live da SEGA CD

This thread is making me want to play SEGA CD again. Haven't done a quick Sonic CD run in a while. Also while I never actually owned one I still think SCD was a better Genesis successor than Saturn. Just saiyan

I think I would have to agree with these anons, the Advance games are fine but I wouldn't say they're better than the Genesis games, especially compared to Sonic CD. Collecting the emeralds is more of a chore than ever in these, and while I do like the graphics and music, there is no topping CD's FMV cutscenes and digital audio. I never cared much for Advance 3, but 1 and 2 are fun games.

They're still some of my faovirte GBA titles, and if you like those you should definitely check out some of the other SEGA games on GBA:
>Sonic Battle
>Sonic Pinball Party
>SEGA Arcade Gallery
>Super Monkey Ball Jr.
>Crazy Taxi: Catch a Ride
>Puyo Puyo Fever
>Chu Chu Rocket
>Gunstar Super Heroes
>Astro Boy

It depends on how many games you plan on playing. The entire English-friendly SEGA CD set is like 80GB but then you still want to leave room for stuff like TurboGrafx-CD and PS1, and in your case the operating system(?),

This is really unfortunate. While adding a handful of SEGA CD games, they simultaneously got rid of the best part about the original Genesis Mini, the ability to add more games. As it stands the Mini 1 is still the superior console for that reason, even if Mini 2 has Sonic CD out of the box.

Play SEGA CD and 32X first, then play Saturn. If you like Genesis then you will probably enjoy SEGA CD and 32X. They were really supposed to be the successor to the Genesis before the Saturn came along.

As for Saturn itself, you're going to end up either loving it or being disappointed just like a lot of people who bought one in the 90's only to get a PS1 or N64 months later. It's not a bad console, but I personally would not put it beside PS1 or Dreamcast.

Idk OP, I can't say I share most of your gripes with the game. I don't hate it, though I might maybe agree that it's slightly overhyped compared to the others. My current favorite is probably also Sonic CD, but that is mostly due to me being a huge SEGA CD fanatic in recent years. I actually haven't played Sonic 3 & Knuckles in quite some time since I mostly just play 1 or CD nowadays.

>The Sega CD didn't sell amazingly well, but it didn't have a bad reputation either until the 32X came out and ruined the entire concept of a console add-on forever.
I noticed this too. It did even well enough to get its own standalone console. Feels like revisionist history from the anti-SoA side to me (or literally people who just watched the AVGN video and think all add-ons are bad).

Sonic CD is so much better than anything on the Saturn. I get it, people love their arcade ports and Japanese games, but they seriously dropped the ball with Sonic and first party games in general on that thing. Don't need to play the world's ugliest rail shooter when I can just play After Burner III or Starblade. Manx TT is also a joke compared to Road Rash on SEGA CD.

On-topic, Mini Mushroom comes to mind, but not retro

On Christmas of 1993, I got the Sega CD and one of the best Sonic games ever to go with it.
