Unlike Frontier it's very easy to make money, and the shops actually have good items that cost quite a lot though.
As you progress in the game you'll get Relics that will give you either Map Abilities or boosts when equipped.
Map abilities are used to either explore environments, such as destroying walls, or nice extras like digging up treasures or see where enemies are in the map, they run on points though, you can restore those points at an Inn when they run out.
You can Chain encounters like MinSon, when two or more enemy avatars are near each other and you begin an encounter, you'll chain them, as such you'll fight ALL those enemies at the same time, which will usually mean a 4/5 party against 20 or more enemies, you'll NEED someone with magic or wide area weapons here or they'll overpower you, note that in dungeons this is very frequent and will tire your characters out pretty fast.
There isn't a BR, so you can grind to your heart's content.

Other than those I think there's nothing you need to know about basic mechanics.
Ashura might be bit tough for the first Story boss you meet so don't worry if he curbstomps you, it's pretty normal, just grind a bit, get good equipment and try again.

Also, go GiantDad once you get to the Giant world if you're having troubles with the game, it makes most of the mid game pretty easy, unless you're fighting against mages/slimes.

It's silly to even compare it to the remake.
Those games have expanded the originals to the point of making them almost different games, the original gameplay balance has been completely changed with just the introduction of combos, not to mention that they've upped the difficulty a lot in the remakes.

Even so, I still think even the remake of SaGa 2 is better than the remake of SaGa 3, the music, story and general design is much more endearing to me, and I don't deny that SaGa 3 is nothing short of a great game in those departments as well, as I've mentioned before in the thread, the Talon alone is an amazing part of the game, it just doesn't stand up against the whole lot of cool stuff SaGa 2 has to offer, The Goddesses, Apollo, Arsenal/Last Defense System...too much to count.
