Me too. I readily admit nostalgia plays a part in a lot of games but I also find it intensely interesting to go back and re-examine the games on those old consoles that were made for older gamers. I've built a retro PC and playing DOS RPGs is a trip. It's a weird nostalgia fantasy about if i'd been grown up then like I wished I was.

That's about as close to "before my time" as I get. For example, OP, pic related is a pretty shitty game but it probably would have scared me. Personal Nightmare or Waxworks might have actually caused me psychological damage.
