Since there are 2 threads up:
So I've been trying to fix this cabinet TV in whatever spare time I can scrape together (a Zenith B25A10Z). I've replaced 10 of the larger caps (none look damaged anyway, and it didn't help so I guess I have some extra caps now).
But as I was removing the board just now for a better look a little disk popped off. It's apparently a resistor/thermistor.
I don't know a lot about it, but it connects to the degausser.
My TVs symptoms were that it would turn on for a second, but the minute the picture tried to come on the whole thing would shut down. At most I would get a flash of white or a circular rainbow. You can get the flash to be bigger, or the TV to stay on slightly longer if you unplug and replug the TV in after every attempt.
I have to replace this thing now anyway, but what are the odds that this was causing the issue in the first place?
The only other person I've seen describe the exact behavior this thing is exhibiting disappeared from the conversation about it, and the forum he was posting on 5 years ago.

All the thermistors I can find a picture of online have a rubber coating too. This one was just a metal wafer welded to two wires.

Captcha was fucking rude
