In Japan the PCE-CD format got good sales, great dev support and almost completely overtook PC Engine development over HuCARDs after ~1992-1993.
The Mega CD was the direct answer to the PCE-CD and did a lot more to improve the base hardware but also had shit dev support so it's no wonder it never caught on anywhere.
The best hardware in the world doesn't matter when there are barely any good games on it.

NECbeards, do you prefer HuCard games or CD games?

CD has Rondo, Gate of thunder and the Falcom games, but HuCard has a lot more platformers and all the Namco and Taito shit. I play HuCard on average more

I'm about to make the leap into PC-CDrom territory, however, I'm concerned that my PC Engine is incompatible with the interface unit. It's modded to output stereo audio and s-video, and it's got an active region switch. My concern is whether or not these modifications would affect the expansion port or anything relying on video output within the interface unit. Anyone have any experience? Is the PCE PC CD-rom worth it in the long run? Is there a better option altogether?
