This game drove me insane when I was 10. I felt possessed. I got so sick for days since I started playing it. I have to have a bucket near me to puke. My mother is very religious and allowed me stay up to beat the game. Once I beat the game immediately felt a lot better and started CRYING tears of joy like I killed Spider Mastermind in real life while We Are the Champions by Queen played in my head. My mother told me "see what you get playing these demonic games?" For years I stick with cute E rated games.
Years later I discovered I had a stomach virus from a undercooked turkey leg and Doom was giving me motion sickness the entire time. It was just a coincidence that my symptoms increased once I started Doom 2 and the gameplay was really that addicting. Demonic possession debunked and went back playing edgelord games while me and my mom recreate the ending of Harvester.

Everyone says this is great but the game is unplayable at several moments due to the darkness. Areas go 100% dark and any monsters in the areas also become 100% dark, making them literally impossible to see and shoot.

I kept running into areas with no visibility and Spectres, it's really cheap and annoying. It wasn't my TV black levels or gamma or brightness either, I mean it when I say 100% dark... literally no colors but black.
Why does nobody who sucks this port's dick ever mention the pure darkness that completely hides enemies?

They had everything system hooked up from NES to PS1 it was fun and they always carried games that were hard to find. It was funcoland that eventually became GameStop like everyones. I wouldn't miss them last time I went for an interview for a second job I thought I went to the wrong store. They have clothes and toys and dorky looking and acting staff and all the games where in the back. I looked around bought the cheapest PS3 game and left and never looked back.

I heard that Doom PSX has an all new soundtrack made by the guy who did the music for Doom 64 and that it is similarly creepy sounding. Is the rest of the game the same otherwise or is anything else different enough to warrant a playthough?

It's a little more eurominimalist which in this case I don't care for. Show off the cool enemy designs and the wicked environments. It's much cooler that way. The only thing wrong with it is the mercenary has a shotgun. This isn't some Ico vs Ico scenario. The angle and energy of the art even reminds me of this fine work of 90s pulp.

The new OST kills the tone of the original and while the colored lighting is sometimes nice looking I feel it changes the look of the game a bit too radically as well as being too dark a lot of the time.

Playstation Doom isn't perfect, but it makes up for its flaws and shortcomings by offering some new content and some changed aesthetics and design (for better or worse, mostly neither).

Sure, there's no Arch-Vile because they couldn't do him justice, he used too many frames, and that sucks, and the Final Doom port should have used more actual Plutonia/TNT levels instead of Master Levels, but there's a lot of added details and new levels, on top of the game generally running, looking, and controlling just fine (something which couldn't be said for all console ports of that era). Hell, it even supports a mouse peripheral.
If you just wanted to play Doom in the 90's, it was a valid alternative, especially if you consider how cheap a Playstation was.

Is it wrong that I actually prefer PSX Doom and Final Doom?

Pros:

>great ost
>sort of "best of" map selection
>great ambience
>great lighting
>no in-level saving (prevents save-scumming)
>easier overall (combined with above is great perfect balance)
>overall slower with more awkward movement (helps balance)
>Nightmare Spectres

Cons:
