Oh well, I'm not complaining. I'm still having a blast with this mod. Kinda wish someone made a similar mod for Quake.

>Going back to anything, vanilla or not, feels so alien now. Running so fast and being so tough feels weird.
Indeed! It feels so weird, almost like as I were playing completely different games.

If someone is interested in similar mod for Unreal - you should check out RLCoop. It's not as hardcore and tacticool as HD, but still, it manages to change gameplay quite a lot and provides a decent challenge

Where's a good place to get all the Hexen II files?

I feel that the executions make the player feel too powerful. It's as if you're not a human.
As >>2501097 says, you're now some dude with power armour. You can rip open bodies like a freshly cooked turkey and there is no feeling of humanity or fear to the character's actions.

I think that ruins the feeling of being the last remaining man fighting against the hordes of hell. You're not the predestined hero, you're just there by chance and you're alone.

This new game feels like a cash-in sequel rather than a reboot, mainly because of the character; instead of starting off as the self righteous dumbfuck who got exiled to Mars for beating up a CO you're now some super awesome badass with power armour and the one man to save the day from the very start.

I'm really confused about the direction of the game and worried by it's marketing so far.
The tone is too 'hardcore' to feel right to me; leave the ridiculous super hero doomguy to campy mods and the cheesy comic.

I still think that horror and action should be together as one again. With the modern technology and AI being used to the maximum to make old enemies threatening again.

Doom 3 fucked up the horror aspect because it was forced and inorganic jumpscares. Meanwhile doom 64 focused on horror by keeping the more organic gameplay, but by dressing it up in scary visuals and sounds.

The original games were spooky because the enemies could search through the whole level for you. It's far more organic and tense to know that something is coming and you can't hide. The feeling of vulnerability when you are low on health and ammo is also a major factor.

With Doom 4's movement system they could have made a really badass action-horror game like what doom 1 aspired to be, with pinkies monsters flanking around the player and imps climbing to chase the player as a Baron of Hell soaks up all of your ammo.

Hopefully if we get a full SDK we'll make it into one some day.
Hopefully.
