Definitely read it despite what I'm about to say, but you will never fully solve this issue. I just fired up Plutonia's first map, pic related. I have zero reason to venture outside of this hallway. I will likely die if I go out to take on the chaingunners without the safety net of retreating further into the hall. I think you should just do what you feel you need to do if you have some kind of arena in mind. Croteam will just fucking lock doors for no reason and pit you against a horde of Mental's forces and it's great. People get really weird about these things in Doom and Quake maps, and I get it, artifice like that shows the hand of the author, but by and large I really don't give a shit.
