Some boss fights have their arenas and moves changed a bit, and the NG+ cycle has three unique enemy types that have unique traits.

The game is designed around the new capabilities of the whip, but the subweapons are also very handy in their quick rate of fire and high amount of damage, along with having reach in areas not even the improved whip can touch.

The Castlevania lore stuff that was recently dug up from old Akamatsu interviews is pretty damn interesting, even though it really only counts for the NES games and maybe Castlevania IV.

If you're new to /vr/, Castlevania threads aren't exactly the friendliest of threads. In a way, Castlevania threads here reflect how Castlevania levels and atmosphere are, full of deathly tricky traps, monsters (in this case trolls), and an overall fiendish vibe.

The dungeon in X68000/Chronicles is one of my favorite areas because of the corpses you find that still have flesh. That takes the ordinary dungeon and suddenly makes it far more visceral and gruesome. You start to realize that some of these people were actually torn in half or had their corpses mutilated instead of just falling apart as bones, and it also provides a greater context to the previous heaps of bones that makes it more disturbing in retrospect.

I also liked the area outside of the first Shaft battle in Rondo of Blood for similarly feeling like a dumping ground for all the sacrifices he needed to make to revive Dracula. We saw the single execution in the intro that had a more personal feeling to it, and then we saw the full context and how horrible Shaft's spells and rituals really were. It's like how the Legion boss in SotN elevates the catacomb where the floor is filled with corpses. With this in mind, I also really like the background of the Grim Reaper's arena in CV III with the rolling mounds of skulls, some with blood on them.

It's a shame that the series never featured a "forest" of impaled bodies like the actual Vlad Tepes made. It was such a perfect opportunity they missed, and one they probably only could have gotten away with on the NES.

Yeah, it's also not a port when the only reused assets are Richter and (some) enemy sprites. All new level assets, all new level design, new bosses.

>which ones are good?
1, 3, 4, Rondo, X68000, Belmont's Revenge, Bloodlines, Dracula X SNES.
They are nothing like SOTN though. If you want to play a hybrid between classicvania and SOTN-style games where you explore more, play Simon's Quest and the MSX Castlevania.

/vr/ e-celeb threads are way more civil than /vr/ Castlevania threads.
Although you're right in one thing, e-celebs are not retro. Except maybe for that guy Mark who's been doing internet shit since 1999.

Before this turns into another CV shitposting thread, let me advice you to just play the series in order and form your own opinion.
Play the Castlevania 1 for NES, it's the basis of the whole series and is still a great game to play.
From there, move forward, they're all pretty much great games, you can skip Castlevania II if you don't like it but I advice you to at least try it, if only to hear Bloody Tears for the first time in its original version.

OP here.

What's the best Classicvania game IYO?

For me it's the original.

BTW, I'm not really the OP, I just said that to get your attention.
