I played it this summer on a whim, finished VTMB and vampires were in my head so I decided to give Castlevania a try, and I fell in love with it.

I was really surprised just how fun the game is today, it only really suffers from stiff control and some bullshit rooms here and there but it's a solid game nonetheless. The music was fantastic and I still listen to Out of Time to this day, it's just so fitting for the scene. I didn't like Castlevania 3 as much, mostly because I felt it was way too hard for its own good. Stage 7 took me hours and wasted a lot of my time and in the end I had to save state it which I felt bad for. I still rate it highly but I really hated that stage.

I'd say my favourite is Rondo which is a boring choice since it seems everyone loves it, but I found it to be such a fun little game that I 100%'d it twice, from the music to the visuals to the just right difficulty I just adored it. Followed by 1 and then 3.

I find that you don't see the style of a lot of older games today, I enjoy Classicvania a lot more than Metroidvania because I've played tons of the latter, but very little of the former. It felt fresh and fun to play over something I've seen around 10 times now.
