retro meta...
anyone basically skipped the 8th and 9th gens altogether
to this day I haven't even seen a PS4 or PS5 in the flesh
but I remember wildly vividly yesteryears consoles
from NES, SNES, N64, DC, PS1, PS2, XBox, Gamecube, PS3, Wii, 360
what was the peak ?
it was probably the PS1 & N64
some would say PS2 era but I would say it was already in decline and the PS3 era just cemented it with brown and bloom
after the PS1 and N64 it just never got topped it never got any better
everything lacked SOOOOUL afterwards

I'm trying to remember the name of this old PS1 game. It had that 90s scifi aesthetic like Ghost in the Shell, and you played as some kind of cops or special forces agents who are raiding some kind of compound in a city at night. I think the enemies might have been these big blue cyborg guys? There's two protagonists, one is a big guy with a machinegun, the other is a more normal sized woman, maybe she used pistols? You can seamlessly swap between them but almost as soon as you start the game, they have to split up and you get to decide who goes up the elevator to the next floor, and I think I remember still being able to switch back and forth between the two characters as they progress through their respective levels. The one who goes upstairs encounters some survivor hiding in a room and he joins the party as a playable character. This is as far as I can remember getting in this game and I can't remember any other details about it. I don't even think the game was good. I most likely rented it, took it back, then never touched it again, but it just keeps popping up in my memory and I really want to know what game this was and if it's worth playing again.

Also just general thread for figuring out the names of those old games you can barely remember.

Just got me a PS3 and after sadly discovering there's only like 5 quality games on the thing, its now a fancy PS1 machine. What can you recommend for PS1 that's fast paced action gaming, or arcade ports? Not really interested in JRPGs because they suck.

If you could delete one console from history, what would it be?
Pic related for me. The only people who like this shit are Eurotards.

This system's library was objectively better than the N64's.

this is what a ps1 looked like, you grandpa might remember this. Rumors says it had over 1000 games but i only played some on ps3 and it was not near 1000 games. The graphic was 3d but very pixelated. There was also the Nintendo 64 but had only a few games, might have played two or three on the wii u.

Are there any old people here who remember playing on the original hardware? What was it like? Loading time? Gamepad?
Someone told me that ps1 had the first analog stick, is this true? And what about final fantasy 7? Is it really 3xtimes longer than the remake?

Is there an easy way to play ps1 games on a crt without discs? PSIO looks like a nightmare to install, ps2 emulation sucks, would a raspberry pi work?

Multiplats also ran better on PS1. I will defend the PS1 with my life.

How come the PS1 was only $300 at launch? Commodore CDTV and Philips CDI that came out 4 years before it were $1000 and 3 years earlier the Sega CD could be had for the same price as a PS1. Did the cost of CD drive take a nosedive during those 4 years? How about the powerful RISC CPU, 3D math processor, and 4MB of RAM, how come they were so affordable?

Hello denizens of /vr/

Sorry to stir shit in an unoriginal way, but this shit is getting on my nerves, and a video Mutahar posted triggered my PTSD regarding this matter, and that is what to call the console in my OP.

Mutahar calls the console the PS1 in the title, which is good, but calls it the fucking PSX in the video. Now, I know this guys is a few years younger than me, and I am JUST old enough to have experienced the console late in its generation since I was born late '92.

I realize, and I will concede that the console was referred to as the PSX by gaming magazines, some people online, and people in the industry, which sounds like a lot of caveats, but NOBODY ELSE FUCKING CALLED IT THE PSX IN PERSON (Besides the aforementioned people)

AT LEAST IN THE LATE 90S, EVERYONE JUST CALLED IT "THE PLAYSTATION" OR "PLAYSTATION"

When the PS2 was announced, there was some reference it as "The PS1", which is how everybody now should be referring to it.

IF YOU CALL IT THE PSX, YOU ARE A REVISIONIST FUCK WHO NEEDS SENT TO THE GULAGS (Previously mentioned people are exempt, but that's VERY FUCKING FEW PEOPLE)

Thank you for attending my autistic, unhinged Tedx talk.

What's the deal with "minimalist", bezel-less, black electronics these days. I want gray or beige electronics with some character to them.

Now that all this time has passed, can we admit that it was actually the best? Its insane that this was Sony's first ever console and yet the library was as massive and diverse as it was. It's actually even better than the PS2 imo.

Hi anons. I have a dumb question. How do you burn PS1 games? What speed do you use? When I burn games there is some audio glitching. Am I doing something wrong?

This thing is an actual piece of shit
>barely any good games that aren't JRPG trash
>most of the good games have better versions on other platforms
>terrible visuals even for its time
Whoever actually owned this crap had a pathetic excuse of a gaming experience.

hey /vr/, a few weeks ago I managed to get a hold of a PSX and FF VII for a total of $85. how can I easily tell if it's been modded without opening the sucker up and not remembering how to put it back together right?
As far as I know, it's one of the earlier models with the Parallel I/O, Serial I/O, and AV ports.

I'm committing myself to the PS1 library and nothing else.
Should i get a PSP to hack for portable entertainment or is a Vita or PSP Go a better option?

How easy would it be to hack a PS1 if I picked one up off of ebay? Do you find the load times to still be bearable, or do you prefer retroarch?
