>How many games did you end up having?
Oh god loads piles of them maybe 150 ish, can't give you an exact amount, but i'd buy atleast 1 or 2 per week with my weekly pocket money/allowance for however many years I had the computer for.
Then come Christmas and birthdays etc, I'd usually get money and go into the city centre to the bigger software shops and buy maybe 2 or 3 of full price games which RRP'd around £10 and half a dozen lower priced ones, or sometimes they'd sell themed multi-game boxes like pic related.

Most newsagents sold games at around £1.99 and always had a selection of speccy, C64, and amstrad games in the window so it was just a case of walking around the corner and you'd be back home again in 5 mins, ironically you could go to the shop and come home with a game faster than many of them would take to load lol.

Wasn't unusual to buy a game from the newsagents take it home, record it with a twin cassette player, then take it back saying it wouldn't load and get your money back, loading with tapes could be a bit hit and miss, so you'd have to adjust the heads on the cassette player with a screwdriver to get them to load properly from time to time.
I didn't pirate games much as they were so cheap to buy anyway, plus quality blank cassettes weren't that far off for cost as the genuine game was, so..

>Was there a big Spectrum gaming scene?
Yes pretty big, as I said most newsagents carried games as did video shops/stores.
Disregarding consoles if you weren't part of the speccy scene you were part of the C64 scene, and to a lesser extent the Amstrad scene, I ended up selling my spectrum for a C64 not the breadbin model but the latter one.

>It seems like there aren't alot of RPGs though
Yeah you're probably right there, it did have a lot of text adventure games tho, walk north, look at window etc etc
