>There is supposedly one version of GSM(can't remember which) that apparently supported 240p output of PS2 games rather than going up to 480p+, but I have no idea how it actually worked in practice.
That would be 0.23, pic related. The Vmode to use for 240p is 'NTSC-NI to I-Field'. It's not nearly as intuitive and user-friendly as later revisions though.

>Would really neat if there were more variables one could tweak when forcing rendering for occasions just like this, or possibly per-game config loading. If someone could solve this issue, Klonoa 2 would look absolutely fantastic in 480p
This can be done with OPLGSM if you have your games stored on the PS2's hard drive. I have 500GB of spinning rust in my phat for this purpose. Don't think there's a way to make it work automagically with original or backup discs though...

>Interestingly, 480i actually looks *worse* on my PVMs because the raster lines are so tight and low persistence that the interlacing effect is very visible and distracting. I find bloomy, high-persistence consumer sets actually better for 480i content because they create a more persistent image
Same story with my BVM-20G1s, if not more so. As would be expected, these 15khz pro monitors really take no prisoners when it comes to signal quality. 240p is where they really shine.
