The only ultima game I've played is UO, but does these older games have skills for tasting like in UO?

I used to play Ultima Online, but these days I mostly play singleplayer. But when it's possible I like couch coop and fighting games in versus.

Are there any 90's online services still running that can still be accessed with the hardware of that era? I know things like Ultima Online, and Meridian and whatever have modern engine upgrades and upkeep etc... But are there any that are still backwards compatible (not sure if UO is, and I never played Meridian).
I'm talking about things with consistent server uptime, not just popup user hosted servers. MMOs, 3D chatrooms, things like that...

>No MMO playing experience has ever come close in my opinion, over 20 years since this gorgeous game was released.
I agree, I have never experienced the freedom and "you can do anything" feeling like in UO.

I kind of want to get into ultima online I've never played before but I did try it out a little bit and it seemed right up my alley. Before I put a bunch of time in I was wondering what is the best way to play? I did try official and renaissance. From what I gathered online renaissance was the truest to the best era of ultima online, while official gets new expansions, and forever seems like a shitshow from what people say. I'm leaning towards playing renaissance but I would like your input anons, I've heard of other shards too but only as far as their names.

Played for 14 years. Don't play anymore, since there's no proper AOS shards. And Demise is shit, I made 300m in a month, built a endgame pvp suit, was 1st in a 2v2 event and quit.
Please tell me there's some proper AOS shards now I haven't checked in a year.
Akka bids thee well.

Ultima Online was a beautiful game. It's amazing how much EA missed the point and couldn't understand the charm of the game and kept forcing in weird 3D shit. It just felt lazy as fuck.

I think I gave up on it after the weeb expansion. I know that past Ultimas mentioned oriental lands that were part of the original Sosaria, and it's a cool idea to explore that, but they introduced it in the worst way possible (most of the new items were weird 3D models that didn't fit in with the old stuff at all).

It's too bad, because there will never be another game like this.

You can use a tool like Razor to force a bigger window size, just keep in mind that if you increase too much you can get graphical errors, because the game was made to be played on tiny 90's monitors.

I just picked my guitar and tried to play a song that I love... it's been a long time since I played it, so I'm pretty much reading it as I play, sorry.

Sorry about the poor quality, I'm using my laptop microphone. It kinda sounds like I'm playing through a bottle. And I was so fucking nervous that I couldn't play the second part ;_;

1) how comes the game is 2gb big? It was released on a single disc and I can't imagine the patches/updates being 1,3gb

2) what's the population of the shard?

3) It's been asked before, but is it Vanilla UO with no Trammel/Felucca bullshit?

4) Are there any shitty tweaks, like in IPY where you couldn't mine colored ores?

I only played Ultima Online back in the late 90's, and a bit of the last 3D one as well as Exodus.

What's the best way to get into it "again": console versions or computer versions? (I've never been a huge fan of typing stuff in games, like in the early Wizardry)

They did weird weird stuff with Ultima in Japan... like the rare EP called Hitomi no knife...
