The good thing about Mario bootlegs is that they always used actual good games, so kids ended up playing some good shit.
Maybe the chip n dale game or pic related weren't completely necessary because they used famous IPs in the west anyway (super mario 6 was tiny toon adventures, great game), but then there's stuff like super mario 8 or 14 which are kinda obscure japanese games that never got released outside of Japan officially.
Oh also, MC Mario, I think the only time a western-developed game got the Mario hack treatment (but MC Kids is a really good game, too)
