As for Sega's VRC ratings, this is one of the most baffling. GA for a game with gore in the very first level?

As for ESRB ratings, Heart of Darkness on the Playstation is another oddity. I guess they based the E rating on the playable character being a child, but never played the game long enough to see all the disturbing ways he can die. Perhaps it's because it didn't have any blood?

As someone who's only played SotN (and loved it), I'm interested in playing a classic style Castlevania as well.
What is the best example, or which one should I start with if there's a few really notable examples? I played a very little bit of Bloodlines on Mega Drive, but that's it.

I'll probably play some newer style ones later on as well, but for now I'd like to try a classic style.

And that's all in the first level.
Other noteworthy things are the fact that you can decapitate Harpies (filling the screen with a rain of gore) and the blood fountain at Versailles.

I know it has its little flaws (like how it tried to link the series with the Bram Stoker novel, something Portrait of Ruin pretty much solidified), but I love this game, man.
