Intense, sure, but those aren't interchangable. RE4 is intense in couple of areas but then your mind automatically switches onto problem-solving mode where you are trying to grasp the best course of action. Like the infamous castle room with the raised bridges, or the house siege part. That's also what Dead Space is like in pretty much its entirety - intense. But when you are constantly having that, then game suddenly has more in common with a tactical shooter than with a horror game, especially when your resources are strict and limited. You gotta be fast, you gotta be precise and you can't fuck up. Not saying that it's bad at all, I just get equally mad when people advoce both of these games as spooky or horror. Nigga you can't be scared when everything around you is killable + drops items like pinatas.
