I get disliking the 3D ones, though I think they're mostly underrated, at least the Adventure titles nowadays, but that comment specifically talked about the 2D stuff which I see getting more and more hate here over time. I'm not turning into a console war, I don't care about stuff like that, it's just a pain to see what used to be an universally beloved franchise being treated like garbage.

It feels like a rewritting of history, first '06 and Shadow weren't good, and they really weren't, then Heroes, which is fair, then the Adventure stuff, now the 2D stuff was "never good" too.

I think it wouldn't because it had too much going for it that's unique and sets it apart from Sonic's other titles. I mean, the Game Gear Sonic stuff is still more remembered than all of the titles you mentioned, from my experience at least, and it's all quite simple compared to this one, also look at how remembered Sonic Advance is, and this is sort of a build up to that, with Dimps and stuff.

It works as a transition... from 2D to Adventure Sonic, the classic sprite with green eyes and all, it also did the Genesis gameplay on a handheld so much better than any of the previous attempts.

It was always Eggman in JP, though having that be his actual name feels off, even though it's so iconic, I think having Dr. Ivo Robotnik, which is a cool name, be his real name, and Eggman be the way Sonic call him, makes a lot of sense, it's not a bad compromise that they came up with afterall.

Agreed, Sonic's genuinely well done and plays a lot like his 2D counterpart, but in 3D! It's great, I agree that the rest of the adventure isn't up to par, but Sonic's campaign is by far the longest, so it's fine. It was a good transition into 3D for sure. I wish SEGA had built upon this gameplay style.

Sonic Adventure was always good.
Sonic Adventure 2 was always good.

I think the bosses are fine individually, even if a few of them piss me off, the problem is having ALL of them in a row before you can actually go and take on the final boss, it feels like padding, and takes way too long, whenever I get a Game Over on that part all I think is: "Fuck, I have to do ALL of that over AGAIN." and it's just a chore.

Sonic 3D Blast (Genesis)
I often see this one being called bad, and treated as one of the worst Sonic video games, and while I get it somewhat, it was the last Sonic title on an era that set a standard of excelence... on Genesis especially. I agree that the jumping on enemies, a necessity in Sonic, and platforming, another one, isn't as simple and precise as the classics, but the developers clearly knew this because there's not very many sections that require precise jumping, a lot of it comes down to rolling, spin dash and a well times spin dash jump, a staple of the series since Sonic 2. It's a good collect-a-thon overall.

A proper Saturn response to Mario 64 and Crash, at least in SEGA's eyes at the time, for whatever reason... I can't believe how bad they messed up their high selling mascot on their new console, it baffles me even today,
