I always use saves and will sometimes put a 3-5 death limit on myself depending on how engaged I am before I God-mode and/or noclip through a section. My priority is seeing and experiencing an entire wad (and also time) more so than a sense of pride about completing difficult challenges especially if I don't think it's particularly well balance or relies on RNG
