Maria: Kimitachi no Umareta Wake is an adventure game for the PSX. You play as a doctor in a hospital who is charged with taking care of a young girl Maria, who had tried to commit suicide. Through several psychological meetings with her you discover that she is possessed by three spirits of Egyptian dieties: Isis, Set and Osiris. You also discover that there much more to her background than just a mental disturbance, in a plot that deals with murder, trauma, lies and mythology. The game is broken into 2 different play styles, and adventure style where you investigate Maria's house which is similar to Mansion of the Hidden Souls or Lunacy, and a visual novel type where you have long conversations with different characters and you can make choices that effect the ending and story line. What is really cool about this game is the large amount of fully animated 3D polygonal cut scenes that are fully voice acted. This was actually one of my favorite parts of the game as they are very well done for the time that they were released. There is one part in the game where you have to go over all the information that you learned from maria and your investigation and this will decide which of the endings that you get. Also, like the other game Majotachi no Nemuri, your first playthrough only has 2 different endings that you can get and consecutive playthroughs lead to more endings. There is a sequel for this game but I haven't played it yet, but if it's anything like this game it should be great. I would say that a basic understanding of Japanese can get you through this game, but there are a lot of medical terms in the game so you might want to have a dictionary on hand.
