I used to think that crt shaders were just dumb blur filters and added horizontal black lines, like

But after seeing screens like that sotn compare I got really interested.

Just trying out the list i see in retroarch and I like this one:
CRT-easymode-halation

Seems simple enough (not interested in curved screens) and brightness seems to be mostly kept intact.
