So I just read Masters of Doom and it more or less changed my perception of id. The only member of the team I can appreciate is pic related edgelord. When I only knew about the anecdotes and the Keen shooting I thought he was just another trenchcoat asshole, but given his own traumatic life experience, the fact he seemed to be the only real family man (and son) and the arbitrator in id, I feel like he's someone I'd like to work with. He was just annoyed at Tom "BEEP BEEP" Hall and that's natural. And I love the whole Doom aesthetic.
Tom Hall is useless. For a supposed bubbly guy, he stays in the background and has no inspiring power, Romero did all the inside lobbying for him, and seriously, if you weren't caught in the Keen or nothing, it's highly unlikely you'd stay with that thing. Even Alex Kidd would beat him up. Just buy a discount NES or a SMS.
Carmack is retarded. Everytime he opens up it's for saying something stupid and tryhard. His worldview is something that's trying to sound so sharp and intellectual but is actually just laziness and disregard for anything that isn't some logic game he likes. He just wants to live like an autistic prince coding whatever he wants on his computer, and his grip on id post-Quake really demonstrated that Romero should have been the one who stayed. Was he THAT irreplaceable? I know id was built on the Legend of Carmack but Epic, Valve and 3D Realms showed themselves to be dangerous competitors even with less advanced engines. What do we remember fondly, Doom 3 or DN3D? As for him being a genius I'm starting to think that if we also forsake all common sense and social intelligence for code and pizza we'd all have enough brainpower to be Carmacks.

The music for E1M8 is like some sort of funeral march. Then the text screen starts out kind of sad ("it's not supposed to end this way!"), then gets steadily more ominous as its revealed he's on the shores of hell. Not sure if those nerds in '93 meant for that to be so cool.

It's cool as fuck though, the Baron Of Hell alone is a timeless graphic, it was worth all the bullshit it entailed.

Yeah, nothing to worry about. It's not that freaky or skeletal.

Yeah it looked great imo. Baron of Hell was one of my favorite.
