Oh absolutely. They both made the Mario world feel inhabited and interesting, same goes for a lot of the spin-offs around that time. Mario Golf, Mario Tennis, even the weird extras in Super Mario Bros. Deluxe had some charm of their own. I wish they'd bring back the You vs Boo mode from that game.

My other cousins also had a Super Nintendo, it was somewhat of a Thanksgiving tradition every other year all the cousins would be downstairs playing Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario World, and Super Mario All-Stars. I'd only seen an NES once before with only the first Super Mario Bros, so for awhile, I assumed Super Mario Bros. 3 was made for the Super Nintendo and that the NES wasn't able to do Overworld Screens. Super Mario Advance 4 only strengthened that misconception because while Super Mario Bros. 2 seemed to be a remake, Super Mario World and Yoshi's Island appeared to be ports so I assumed the same was true for Super Mario Bros. 3.
