Call me a fucking regressive but the other day somebody made a Quake tech demo with real time raytracing lighting and mirror reflections and it looks slightly better than the "fake" precalculated, baked reflections we've already had for 20 years. The elephant in the room is that technology ran into an evolutionary dead end.
