I've noticed that "Slaughterwad" is often used as a pejorative in the Doom community.

Isn't there merit to the concept of a "slaughter map"? It seems like the equivalent of boiling Doom down to its pure action basics - dodging projectiles, crowd control, pickup management, reflexes. It seems like a welcome change of pace from keyhunting, a nice crescendo if you will.

What differentiates a good slaughter map from a bad slaughter map? How do you get a feel for its flow? Are the derisive "muh slaughter" remarks coming from some place of legit criticism, or are they from people who can't git gud at them?
