Ninja Gaiden Thread! Which one is your favourite?

I recently managed to beat all 3 Ninja Gaiden games (well, Ninja Gaiden 3 on the easier Famicom-version only) and this might become my all time favourite retro franchise. The games are all flawed in their own ways, but I really like the atmosphere, music, tight controls and the nonstop action that is thrown at you. I think I still prefer the first one. Even though it is very imbalanced in a lot of ways (enemy placement and respawns are sadistic, some powerups are really broken), I like the straighforward stages better than the sometimes gimmicky ones in 2 and 3.
