Just wait until you get Dragons. You can pick one up as soon as you get off Dagger Wound.

>Walk west to Garate Gorge
>Enter Dragon Cave
>Hire Dragon
You can even get master Fly, just pick up the Dragonbane Flowers and then train. Level 7 Dragon skill and you are set for at least the first half of the game.
