How come shooting 2D sprites in Doom is more satisfying and feels better than 3D polygons in Quake?

aesthetics is all the auditory and visual representation involved in a game. A game like Ninja Spirits has a very different aesthetic than Sexy Parodious or Final Fight and it's not a trivial difference that can be ignored.
Games have themes and their aesthetics need to express those themes well, even if they have no text/dialogue or character development.
Also aesthetics impacts gameplay. Guwange would lose a lot of appeal and impact if it's characters were just simple polygonal shapes in monochrome colour, and it's soundtrack was just beeps and boops.

You need to think about games and aesthetics more, you really can't separate form from content in such an engaging medium.

I've mostly been playing keyboard only while visiting family the last couple of weeks. After a brief adjustment period it's still pretty great, and I can do it in the comfiest chairs.

OP pic reminded me that I used to think the pistol and shotgun had faces that looked back at you while playing.
I also thought the corpse in E1M1 was a caterpillar

I miss seeing the game like that some days

So I cooked up an action funciton function that I've felt has been missing for a long time.

Action Void K_RadiusPuff(double hitradius, class<actor> puffclass)
{
ThinkerIterator it = ThinkerIterator.Create("Actor");
Actor mo;
while ((mo = Actor(it.Next())))
{
If (mo == self || mo.bDormant || !mo.bIsMonster )
{ // Not a valid monster: originator, boss, dormant, or otherwise protected
Continue;
}
else if (mo.health <= 0)
{
continue;
}

If (Distance3D(mo) > hitradius) //DK: you might want distance3d here
{ // Out of range
Continue;
}

If (mo.CurSector.PortalGroup != CurSector.PortalGroup && !CheckSight(mo))
{
//DK: you said it goes through walls - it shouldn't because there's a checksight call here
// in another region and cannot be seen.
Continue;
}
actor puff = mo.spawn(puffclass, mo.pos +(0.0, 0.0, mo.height*0.5), NO_REPLACE);
puff.tracer = mo;
puff.target = self;
}
}

You call it like this: K_RadiusPuff(256.0, "rocket");
It spawns an actor of your choice on any monster in range and line of sight to the caller. The "puff" actors tracer is the victim and its target is the player, so with custom puffs you can do all sorts of things.

The last not-Doom game you've played must now be recreated as a Doom mod or have a mod made that's heavily inspired by it in one way or another. Describe what that hypothetical mod is like; weapons, monsters, gameplay overhauls, whether or not it would even be possible to recreate said game within Doom at all. Go wild.

>We've already done Scythe 1 and 2
Try Alien Vendetta.

As far as other good wads, Back to Saturn X and Strange Aeons are pretty sweet, but I'm not sure how'd they play in co-op.

Is BTSX co-op friendly? Does anybody know?
