I was extremely hyped for the first RGG.
I loved Shenmue and I was totally into Yakuza movies at the time so it seemed like a dream game. I grew stupidly high expectations, hoping for a some serious and masterful story like in the best movies, Shenmue-level detail and who knows what else. Even the website seemed amazing to me.
So I bought it day one and felt kinda disappointed. The story was stupid and it was no Shenmue. But it was a fun game, so I bought the sequel and knowing what to expect it grew on me, even if the story was predictable and silly (until 0, I think that's the first one in the series that's actually really well written and doesn't have stupid moments). Now I'm burnt of it but it holds an special place in my memories.
