I feel like this game might be not quite obscure, but I have to add it here anyway, just because I've never met another person who knew what it was.

Fantasy Zone. I've really only played Super Fantasy Zone for the Mega Drive, so I can't really speak on behalf of the rest of the series, but Fantasy Zone is a shmup I love coming back to again and again.
